 Weed Removal

This project recognises the importance of the cliff and harbour view vista and the potential for turning what may be considered as an eyesore into a valuable environmental feature. Through the initial establishment and incorporation phase of the Portland Cliffs Group, the Eco Trust assisted with preparation and submission of joint funding applications for a group facilitator and a $10,000 matching grant to monies received through the GHCMA RCIP program. The Facilitator funding has resulted in the development of a three year plan for on ground works.

Over 5000 plants have been established on the cliffs, with site preparation including laying of matting to stabilize soil and control weed re-growth. Weed control has focused on removing woody environmental weeds from the planting sites, as well as widespread gorse control along the cliffs to the Lighthouse. In the next period we look forward to further working with the Portland Cliffs Group, the volunteers and the community in resorting Portland's cliffs.
